Chiefs Hand No. 8 Sandburg Men’s Soccer 1st Loss of Season

GALESBURG — Waubonsee handed the eighth-ranked Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team its first loss of the season Saturday, shutting out the Chargers 3-0 at Kleine Field.

The Chiefs (4-4 overall, 4-3 Region IV) had just four shots on goal to Sandburg’s three, but Waubonsee was able to connect on three of its opportunities.

The Chargers (6-1, 3-1) got a golden chance in the 12th minute as Waubonsee was whistled for a handball in the box, but Guylberson Camille (Key West, Fla./Key West) put his penalty attempt wide left of the goal.

Edgar Barrientos got Waubonsee on the board in the 30th minute with a header off a free kick by Axel Sanchez. It marked the first deficit Sandburg had faced in 570 minutes of play this season.

The Chiefs’ Andy Emile broke loose for a pair of goals in the second half, scoring in the 55th and 69th minutes.
